Massachusetts Space Week Returns, Celebrating “Life in the Universe”

Weeklong Event Features 80+ Events Across the Commonwealth, April 21-27, 2025

CAMBRIDGE (APRIL 2025) – The Space Consortium has announced the seventh edition of Massachusetts Space Week, featuring more than eighty free programs across Massachusetts from April 21-27, 2025. This year’s theme, “Life in the Universe,” will explore humanity’s place in the cosmos and the search for extraterrestrial life through discussions, exhibits, and interactive experiences for all ages. MA Space Week aligns with both International Earth Day on April 22 and the Commonwealth’s School Vacation Week to encourage family participation.

“Massachusetts Space Week has grown exponentially since its inception as a campus-based and student-focused event in Cambridge eight years ago,” says Dr. Alissa J. Haddaji, Founder and Director of The Space Consortium & MA Space Week. “It has been an honor to see people from every walk of life join us at our free and open events – whether you’re a space professional or just think space is an interesting topic, Massachusetts Space Week is for you.”

MA Space Week showcases the diversity of the space sector in Massachusetts in science, art, technology, engineering, design, and more, sparking conversations between space experts and the general public. MA Space Week includes expert talks and conferences, as well as a slate of standalone events that are presented by organizations across Massachusetts during the week.

With over 80 total festivities, MA Space Week will include:
– Events and displays hosted at over 30 public libraries;
– Workshops and demonstrations for students and recent graduates;
– Experiences for children and families;
– A Space Careers & Resources Fair;
– Observatory open houses;
– Keynote lectures;
– Expert panels;
– Dedicated museum exhibits;
– Free planetarium shows;
– Space trivia & board game nights
– The 5th Edition of the weeklong Space Film Festival;
– And much more!

Among the goals of MA Space Week is to shine a light on the Commonwealth as a space state. From the Apollo Exhibit at the Museum of Science, Boston, to the space exhibits at the JFK Library, to academic expertise in every domain of space research in Boston, Cambridge, Easton, Framingham, Lowell, and beyond, to the dynamism of the private space companies that call Massachusetts their home, this is a stellar state at all levels. The state can also rely on the enthusiastic network of volunteer and professional stargazers at MIT Astrogazers, #popscope, and more who share their knowledge through inspiring stargazing events.

“MA Space Week is a massive public celebration of space and astronomy, and we’ve been thrilled to partner with the Space Consortium to host its kick off,” said Dani LeBlanc, director of the Center for Space Sciences at the Museum of Science, Boston. “The themes connect directly to our Museum’s Being Human spotlight and builds on work that’s at the heart of the Museum’s mission by creating opportunities for the public to join conversations around timely space topics and experience the vast range of space science and innovation happening right here in Massachusetts.”

All Massachusetts Space Week events are meant to be financially accessible to all. While most events are free and open to the public, those which are ticketed will be made accessible for interested low-income families. The full program for MA Space Week is now available. What is Massachusetts Space Week, organized by The Space Consortium?
Launched in 2017, The Space Consortium is a MA-based, space academics & researchers-led 501(c)(3) non-profit and public charity, which organizes a series of space education & outreach initiatives, including Massachusetts Space Week and The Space Consortium (SC) Space Days, to help democratize space knowledge and connect MA-based space experts and enthusiasts with each other and with the public. Supported by the Massachusetts Space Grant, MA Space Week and The SC Space Days stand as testaments to grassroots collaboration & community effort among space experts across the state, aiming to make space research accessible to all.

MA Space Week is an annual, week-long celebration that seeks to bridge the gap between academia and the broader community and to foster a shared enthusiasm for space science, through engaging events such as a Space Film Festival, a Space Careers Fair, and more than 80 space events statewide.
